Design suggestions

The designer proposes better layouts for what a section is trying to show. You decide whether to take them.

A section that is a wall of prose often contains a comparison, a timeline or a distribution that would read better as a table or a chart. Design suggestions propose those changes.

How it works

The designer reads a section's content and offers concrete alternatives: turn these five findings into a severity table, put this dependency profile in a chart, pull this architecture description into a diagram, split this section because it is carrying two arguments.

Each suggestion appears in the ideas tray beside the section. Nothing is applied until you apply it, and anything applied can be reverted.

What it will not do

  • It will not invent a number to make a chart work. A proposed chart uses figures already in the section, with their citations carried across.
  • It will not restructure a section you have locked.
  • It will not change a rating. Presentation is presentation.

Using it well

Take the suggestions that make a reader's job easier and ignore the rest. Two tables on a page is clarity; six is a spreadsheet. The measure is whether the investment committee gets to the point faster, not how much of the tray you emptied.
