The same assessment has to be read by a board, by the target's management, and by engineers. Editions produce those three readings from one report rather than three divergent documents.
The editions
- Board pack — conclusions, ratings, material risks and conditions. Short.
- Management — the full findings with the reasoning, for the people who have to act on them.
- Technical — everything, including the detailed evidence, dependency and contributor data, and the appendices.
Why filter rather than write three documents
Because three documents drift. The moment a finding changes in one and not the others, you have a defensibility problem and no way to know which version the committee read. Editions are produced from one version history at publish time, so a fact corrected once is corrected everywhere.
What differs between them
Depth, not conclusions. An edition can omit detail; it cannot state a different rating or contradict another edition. If a finding is Critical, it is Critical in the board pack too — that is precisely the reader who needs to know.
Choosing at publish
Pick the edition when you issue or export. Each carries the same version identifier, so a reader can tell which release they hold.
